Advanced Orthopedic Care for Workers’ Compensation Cases in Sarasota and Surrounding Areas
Workers’ compensation professionals managing cases in Sarasota and nearby areas understand how orthopedic injuries can significantly impact an injured worker’s ability to perform their job safely and effectively. These cases require accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment planning, and clear communication to support functional recovery and safe return to work outcomes.
Meet Dr. Andrew Mundy
Dr. Andrew Mundy is a board certified orthopedic surgeon in Sarasota, Florida, specializing in sports medicine, minimally invasive procedures, cartilage restoration, and robotic assisted orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Andrew Mundy brings elite orthopedic sports medicine training to the care of injured workers in the Sarasota community. With a background rooted in high level athletic medicine and complex musculoskeletal care, Dr. Mundy applies the same precision, structure, and functional focus to workplace injuries, helping injured employees recover safely and return to work with confidence.
At Synergy One Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Dr. Mundy treats work related orthopedic injuries with a clear understanding that successful workers’ compensation outcomes depend on accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment planning, and timely communication. His approach emphasizes restoring function, addressing physical limitations, and supporting practical return to work decisions that align with both the injured worker’s recovery and the employer’s needs.
Dr. Mundy’s medical training reflects a deep commitment to orthopedic excellence. Originally from Cleveland, Tennessee, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Lee University before completing medical school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He then pursued orthopedic surgery residency training at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, where he developed broad experience treating musculoskeletal injuries across a wide patient population.
Following residency, Dr. Mundy chose to further specialize in orthopedic sports medicine, completing a highly competitive fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. There, he trained under renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, gaining advanced expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of joint, ligament, cartilage, and soft tissue injuries. This additional specialization sharpened his ability to evaluate complex orthopedic conditions, many of which closely mirror injuries sustained in the workplace.
During his fellowship at Andrews Sports Medicine, Dr. Mundy cared for athletes at every level of competition. He served as the orthopedic team physician for the University of West Alabama, provided coverage for University of Alabama athletics, including the 2021 NCAA National Championship football team, and participated in the care of professional athletes from Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the National Basketball Association. He also supported athletes from USA Gymnastics, the Alabama Ballet, and the Birmingham Barons, the Double A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.
This experience translates seamlessly into workers’ compensation care. Many workplace injuries involve the same mechanisms seen in sports, including repetitive strain, joint instability, ligament injury, and overuse conditions. Dr. Mundy’s background allows him to identify subtle pathology, assess functional impact, and design treatment plans that move cases forward efficiently while prioritizing patient safety.
In the workers’ compensation setting, Dr. Mundy commonly evaluates injuries involving the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, and ankle. His care plans may include conservative treatment options such as activity modification, therapy coordination, and injections when appropriate, with surgical intervention considered when non operative care is no longer effective. Throughout the process, the focus remains on functional improvement, measurable progress, and safe return to work outcomes.
Employers, adjusters, and case managers value Dr. Mundy’s structured evaluations and clear medical direction. His documentation reflects a precise diagnosis, defined functional limitations, and realistic recovery expectations, providing the clarity needed to support work restrictions, transitional duty, and long term case resolution.
Dr. Andrew Mundy is a WorkCompReady certified physician, trained in workers’ compensation best practices and experienced in caring for injured workers.
Since 2021, Dr. Mundy has been proud to serve the greater Sarasota community alongside his wife, Nicole, and their children, Landon and Leia. Outside of medicine, he enjoys staying active and spending time with his family, passions that further reinforce his commitment to helping injured workers regain mobility, strength, and quality of life.
