Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Care for Workers’ Compensation Cases in Virginia and Northern Virginia
Workers’ compensation professionals managing cases in Virginia and nearby areas, particularly Northern Virginia, understand how significantly foot and ankle injuries can affect an injured worker’s mobility, job performance, and recovery timeline. These injuries often require specialized care, clear treatment planning, and realistic guidance around work restrictions and return-to-work expectations.
Meet Brian P. Gallagher, MD
Dr. Brian P. Gallagher is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon with advanced expertise in foot and ankle care, trauma, reconstruction, joint replacement, and sports related injuries. He practices with Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic, providing care to injured workers across Northern Virginia, including Annandale, Reston, and Arlington.
Foot and ankle injuries can be complex and often impact balance, gait, and the ability to perform essential job functions. In the workers’ compensation setting, Dr. Gallagher approaches these cases with a focus on accurate diagnosis, functional recovery, and clear treatment planning that supports safe and timely return to work.
Dr. Gallagher earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, where he developed extensive experience in trauma and reconstructive care. He then completed fellowship training in foot and ankle orthopedics, further refining his expertise in complex lower extremity conditions.
As a fellowship trained specialist, Dr. Gallagher treats a wide range of work related injuries, including foot and ankle fractures, Achilles tendon injuries, joint degeneration, and complex trauma. Treatment plans may include conservative care when appropriate or surgical intervention when necessary, always with an emphasis on restoring function and supporting long term recovery.
In workers’ compensation cases, timely communication and clear documentation are critical. Dr. Gallagher’s evaluations focus on functional limitations, realistic recovery expectations, and practical work status guidance. This approach supports effective case management, transitional duty planning, and long term claim resolution for employers, adjusters, and case managers.
Dr. Gallagher is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, where he has served on the Research Committee. He has presented research at national meetings and published in peer reviewed journals, reflecting an ongoing commitment to evidence based orthopedic care.
To support efficient coordination, Dr. Gallagher’s clinical team works closely with the OM Workers’ Compensation Liaison Team on scheduling, documentation, work status updates, IMEs, and follow up related to workers’ compensation cases.
