Interview with the CEO of Orthopaedic Center of South Florida Robin Fielding

Interview Written by Mari Diaz

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Robin Fielding, CEO of Orthopaedic Center of South Florida (OCSF), who is not only a personal friend and mentor but also an incredible leader. Before the interview officially began, we shared some coffee and laughter, bonding over one of Robin's greatest passions: giving back. Her enthusiasm for community service was infectious as she spoke about her involvement with Give Kids The World (GKTW). With a gleam in her eye and a chuckle, she said, “Stop what you're doing right now and visit their website to donate or volunteer. Seriously, I'll wait! I encourage all our readers to support GKTW in any way they can.” Robin's commitment to this cause is truly inspiring and, honestly, a bit contagious.

Switching gears to her professional accomplishments, Robin has made an incredible impact at OCSF. The center is a leader in orthopedic and podiatric care, known for its advanced treatments and outstanding patient outcomes. Employers have trusted OCSF for decades to treat their injured workers and help them return to work safely with the best possible care.

Under Robin Fielding's leadership, OCSF has been named Best Doctor in Workers’ Compensation for 2025, a prestigious honor that underscores their dedication to providing top-notch care to injured workers. This accolade, which the practice also received in 2023 and 2024, reaffirms their commitment to excellence and their mission to support injured workers.

OM Magazine: Robin, can you share a bit about your background and how you found your way into healthcare?

Robin Fielding: Sure! I was born in Brooklyn, NY, but I moved to South Florida when I was 11 years old. I'm the proud mom of two grown boys who are both married. No grandchildren yet, but I'm hopeful, lol! I consider myself a Florida girl with Brooklyn roots. I got into healthcare back in 1990, managing hospital-based and outpatient practices for various specialties like Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, and Emergency Medicine. After about six years, I was ready for a new challenge and was lucky enough to become the CEO of Orthopaedic Center of South Florida (OCSF). That was almost 25 years ago, and it’s been an amazing journey.

OM Magazine: When you became the CEO of OCSF, what were your initial goals?

Robin Fielding: When I started in 1998, OCSF was a nine-doctor practice. My main goal was to grow the practice and enhance the quality of care we provided. Today, we have 19 doctors across five locations in the Tri-County Area, serving Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. Our aim has always been to make our specialized services as accessible as possible to those who need them.

OM Magazine: What makes OCSF stand out in the field of orthopedic care, especially for workers' compensation cases?

Robin Fielding: We’re known as South Florida’s leader in treating workers' compensation cases, particularly complex ones. Our physicians are appointed by the Florida Workers Compensation Division as Expert Medical Advisors, which really speaks to their expertise and dedication. Our goal is to get patients back to work and their active lifestyles, providing the best possible care and support throughout their recovery.

OM Magazine: Communication seems crucial in your practice. How do you ensure effective communication within your team and with external parties?

Robin Fielding: Communication is indeed vital, especially in treating injured workers. Our doctors understand the need for optimal communication with everyone involved—patients, adjusters, attorneys, and employers. This commitment to clear communication is embedded throughout our practice, ensuring everyone is well-informed and aligned in the patient’s care plan.

OM Magazine: What qualities do you look for when expanding your team at OCSF?

Robin Fielding: We look for individuals with a superior skill set and training. It’s important that their specialty complements our practice. This approach has helped us build a team that excels in their respective fields and works cohesively to provide top-tier care to our patients.

OM Magazine: What’s OCSF’s philosophy when it comes to workers' compensation?

Robin Fielding: We aim to understand the complexities of the worker’s compensation industry and the needs of everyone involved. Our primary goal is to ensure that injured workers receive the highest quality care and customer service. We strive to make the process as smooth and supportive as possible for everyone.

OM Magazine: What drives you to excel as a CEO in the orthopedic industry?

Robin Fielding: I was raised to work with integrity and to always give my best in everything I do. I care deeply about this business, our practice, my doctors, employees, patients, clients, and community. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the positive impact of our work and to contribute to the success and well-being of everyone associated with OCSF.

OM Magazine: What’s next for Orthopaedic Center of South Florida?

Robin Fielding: We are committed to continued growth and expansion, driven by our dedication to meeting the needs of the communities we serve. We plan to expand our facilities, add new offices, and recruit more highly skilled physicians and medical support staff. This will help us continue providing exceptional care and adapt to the evolving needs of our patients.

OM Magazine: Thank you, Robin, for sharing your story. It’s truly inspiring to hear about your journey and dedication.

Robin Fielding: Thank you for having me. It’s a pleasure to share my story and our practice's ongoing commitment to excellence in orthopedic care for patients everywhere.
