OM Proudly Welcomes Kentucky Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Shane Kibbe to Our National Panel of Highly Qualified Physicians Selected to Provide Exceptional Care for Injured Workers
When an employee is injured on the job, employers want to know they are receiving the best possible care from a highly qualified physician who prioritizes patient care, focuses on strong outcomes, and understands the importance of restoring function so the injured worker can safely return to work when medically appropriate.
Finding that level of care is exactly what OM looks for in the physicians we work with and recommend to employers.
Dr. Shane Kibbe of Kentucky Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is part of OM’s national panel of leading physicians caring for injured workers. A fellowship-trained sports medicine orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Kibbe brings together exceptional education, advanced orthopedic training, experience treating traumatic injuries, and expertise in both surgical and nonsurgical orthopedic care.
For Kentucky employers who want a highly qualified orthopedic physician caring for their injured employees, his credentials speak for themselves.
Dr. Kibbe earned his Bachelor of Science from Johns Hopkins University, followed by a Master of Science and his medical degree from the University of Toledo. He completed five years of orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Louisville and went on to complete a Sports Medicine fellowship at Beacon Orthopedics in Cincinnati.
During his fellowship, Dr. Kibbe served as a team physician for the Cincinnati Reds, Morehead State University Athletics, and Archbishop Moeller High School. He has also authored articles in medical journals and presented at leading orthopedic conferences in the United States and internationally.
It is the kind of background that stands out when employers are deciding who they want caring for an employee after an orthopedic injury.
While Dr. Kibbe’s fellowship training is in sports medicine, the principles behind that specialty extend well beyond athletes. Restoring movement, strength, stability, and function is equally important for an injured employee who needs to recover and return to the physical demands of work and everyday life.
Kentucky Orthopedics & Sports Medicine treats a broad range of sports and trauma injuries, including contusions, strains, sprains, fractures, and dislocations involving ligaments, muscles, tendons, and bones. Dr. Kibbe specializes in both surgical and nonsurgical treatment, with care individualized to each patient and each injury and a focus on restoring function and helping patients return to an active lifestyle.
That individualized approach matters.
Seeing an orthopedic surgeon does not automatically mean surgery. Some injuries may respond to conservative treatment and rehabilitation, while others may require surgical intervention. Having a physician with the training and experience to evaluate both options allows treatment to be based on what is medically appropriate for the individual patient.
Dr. Kibbe’s specialties include sports and trauma injuries, ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, anterior hip replacement, total knee replacement, reverse and total shoulder procedures, same-day joint replacement, and Tommy John surgery.
Many of these injuries can directly affect an employee’s ability to work. A shoulder injury may interfere with lifting, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, or overhead activity. A knee injury can affect walking, standing, bending, climbing, and stability. Injuries involving muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and joints can make everyday movements difficult and prevent an employee from safely performing normal job responsibilities.
For an injured worker, successful orthopedic care is about more than reducing pain. It is about understanding the injury, determining the appropriate treatment, restoring function, and helping that individual get back to life and, when medically appropriate, back to work.
When advanced treatment is necessary, Dr. Kibbe offers a broad range of orthopedic surgical options. Kentucky Orthopedics & Sports Medicine specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques for rotator cuff repair and offers ACL reconstruction, advanced hip, knee, and shoulder procedures, and same-day hip and knee joint replacement for appropriate patients.
The practice also offers a muscle-sparing subvastus approach to total knee replacement designed to preserve important muscles and tendons and support mobility and recovery.
For employers, having access to this level of orthopedic expertise means an injured employee can receive care from a physician who offers a broad range of treatment options, from initial diagnosis and nonsurgical care through advanced orthopedic surgery when necessary.
Dr. Kibbe sees patients at Kentucky Orthopedics & Sports Medicine’s Bardstown and Mt. Washington locations and provides surgical services in Bullitt County, Louisville, Lebanon, and Bardstown, providing access to orthopedic care for patients throughout these communities and surrounding areas.
For more than two decades, OM has worked closely with physicians, employers, adjusters, nurse case managers, and others involved in helping injured workers receive quality medical care. Through that experience, we have seen firsthand how important physician selection can be.
Employers do not simply want a doctor’s name from a list. They want to feel confident about who is caring for their employees.
They want physicians with exceptional credentials and experience. They want doctors who prioritize patient care, take the time to determine the appropriate treatment, and focus on helping patients achieve the best possible outcomes. Most importantly, they want their injured employees to receive the same level of care they would want for their own family.
Dr. Kibbe’s education, orthopedic surgery training, Sports Medicine fellowship, experience treating traumatic injuries, broad surgical expertise, and individualized approach to care are among the reasons he is part of OM’s national panel of leading physicians caring for injured workers.
When an employee is injured, the goal is to get that person the right care from a highly qualified physician, help them recover and regain function, and give them the best opportunity to safely return to work when medically appropriate.
For Kentucky employers looking for the highest level of orthopedic care for their injured workers, Dr. Shane Kibbe is a go-to orthopedic physician, combining exceptional credentials, advanced orthopedic expertise, and a strong focus on patient care, recovery, and outcomes.
