A fellowship-trained orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon at Orthopaedic Center of South Florida, Dr. Horowitz specializes in both surgical and nonsurgical orthopaedic care. His expertise spans sports medicine, fracture care, arthroscopic surgery, and joint replacement of the shoulder, knee, and hip.
A native South Floridian, Dr. Horowitz earned his bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Florida. He received his medical degree from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, where he was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Student Teacher of the Year award.
Dr. Horowitz completed five years of orthopaedic surgery residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Kings County Hospital, a Level I trauma center in Brooklyn. During residency, he contributed to several peer-reviewed research publications and served as Chief Resident during his final year. He then completed subspecialty training in Sports Medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital and the Nicholas Institute for Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma in New York City. His training included both open and minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures, and he gained additional experience serving as an assistant team physician for the New York Jets and head team physician for several New York City high school athletic programs.
For injured workers, Dr. Horowitz's broad orthopaedic background allows him to evaluate conditions ranging from acute trauma and fractures to injuries caused by repetitive movement or physical job demands. His treatment approach begins conservatively whenever appropriate, with surgery considered when nonsurgical options do not provide adequate improvement.
Patient education is also an important part of his approach. Dr. Horowitz takes time to explain the diagnosis and available treatment options so patients understand their care and can establish realistic expectations for rehabilitation and returning to function.
