Meet Dr. Jorge Acevedo

At Bloom Magazine, an OM publication, we’re honored to spotlight specialists who are not only leaders in their field but also deeply committed to providing quality care to injured workers. Dr. Jorge Acevedo, a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery, has been practicing for over 26 years. Based at Southeast Orthopedic Specialists in Jacksonville, Florida, he is trusted by employers, adjusters, and case managers for his efficient approach to helping injured workers recover and return to work safely.

Bloom Magazine: Dr. Acevedo, what is your general philosophy when treating work-related injuries?

Dr. Acevedo: I focus on maximizing patient recovery in a way that allows them to safely return to their pre-injury work. It’s about restoring function and doing it in a way that supports both the patient and the employer's goals.

Bloom Magazine: Communication is key in workers’ comp. How do you prioritize accessibility and collaboration in your practice?

Dr. Acevedo: I make it a point to be available to our case managers and really encourage a team-based approach to care. Open communication with all parties—whether it’s the patient, case manager, or employer—is critical to ensuring that everyone is aligned throughout the recovery process.

Bloom Magazine: What’s your process for making sure injured workers return to work both safely and efficiently?

Dr. Acevedo: It starts with getting the correct diagnosis and implementing the right treatment as quickly as possible. That’s the foundation. From there, it's all about managing expectations and maintaining strong communication so that the patient and employer both know what to expect at each step.

Bloom Magazine: Are there any innovations you’ve recently adopted to improve outcomes for injured workers?

Dr. Acevedo: Absolutely. We’ve incorporated minimally invasive surgical techniques that have significantly reduced downtime and helped patients return to work faster. These include MIS ankle fracture fixation, minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair, and arthroscopic ligament reconstruction, just to name a few.

Bloom Magazine: If you could change one thing about the workers' compensation system, what would it be?

Dr. Acevedo: I’d like to see every patient accompanied by a case manager. In my experience, it truly improves the care process—things move faster, and the quality of communication improves dramatically.

Bloom Magazine: For those needing to coordinate care with you, what’s the best way to get in touch?

Dr. Acevedo: We have a dedicated care coordination team here at Southeast Orthopedic Specialists that works across all of our providers. Anyone can reach us directly by emailing workcomp@se-ortho.com or calling 904-394-2494.

Dr. Acevedo continues to lead with precision, compassion, and a commitment to excellence in orthopedic care, helping injured workers get back on their feet—and back on the job—with confidence.
